ASSEMBLY MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS NEWPORT & M4 TRAFFIC ISSUES TO SHADOW CABINET MEMBER FOR TRANSPORT
A media release on behalf of the Welsh Conservatives issued on 28/09/07
Shadow Minister for Transport Theresa Villiers visited Newport today on a fact finding mission concerning the transport issues in Newport and the M4.
William Graham (Conservative Assembly Member for South Wales East) accompanied Theresa, highlighting issues such as the Ebbw Vale – Newport rail link as they assessed the new Platform 4 development at the city railway station.
Together with Matthew Williams (Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Newport West) and Matthew Evans (Leader of the Conservative group on Newport Council) William and Theresa toured along the M4 and the Southern Distributor Road – the scenes of two tragic accidents that caused gridlock to our transport network.
William outlined the chaos resulting from these accidents and the proposals for an M4 relief road. The visit was concluded with media interviews at the historic Transporter Bridge.
William said: “I am delighted to see Central Government taking an interest in the transport affairs of Wales”.
“Theresa has assured me of her support whenever proposals to solve our transport problems are debated in Parliament”.
