PATIENT CONFIDENCE IN HEALTH SERVICE PARAMOUNT
GWENT HEALTHCARE TRUST MUST DEMONSTRATE THESE ARE
“SERVICE LEAD IMPROVEMENTS”
NOT COST CUTTING EXERCISESaa media release issued on Wednesday 10 January 2007
William Graham – Conservative AM for South Wales East - responding to the proposals to close the Gwanwyn and Tredegar wards at St Woolos Hospital, reducing bed capacity by about 50 beds which are currently designated for orthopaedic and other surgical rehabilitation, together with care support for elderly patients.
“I receive many queries from people concerning the cancellation of scheduled operations. Gwent Healthcare trust must clearly demonstrate that these proposals are patient service lead improvements – not a cost cutting exercise”.
“I fully understand the financial pressure placed upon our health service to meet Assembly Government targets, however the need to retain patient confidence is paramount – it is their health service”.
“It is vital that no existing service ends before the improved facilities and services are ‘on-line’, giving the 21st centaury healthcare provision for patients in Southeast Wales”.
