South Wales East

The forty Assembly constituencies are identical to the parliamentary ones. In addition to the constituency members, Wales is divided into five separate areas - South Wales East, South Wales Central, South Wales West, Mid and West Wales and North Wales - each of which returns four Assembly members (view constituencies). This system of proportional representation, based on the D'Hondt method, means that there are sixty members of the National Assembly for Wales and despite our initial reservations the electoral system has proved to act to the advantage of the Welsh Conservatives.

I am one of the members for South Wales East. This area comprises the eight constituencies of Monmouth, Newport East, Newport West, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Islwyn, Blaenau Gwent and Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney.
