UNDER LABOUR’S LEADERSHIP THE HEALTH SERVICE GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE
The NHS in Gwent has experienced considerable change. It has been given historical levels of funding and yet seen no improvement to services. Waiting lists have not been fully addressed, bed blocking and the cancellation of scheduled operations continues, together with an increasing number of patients having their treatment options taken away by Health Commission Wales.
Changes must be carefully considered and subject to a full public consultation. Key decisions such as where to locate a Specialist & Critical Care unit demand a full consultation. William will campaign to keep the public informed of the timetable for implementing new facilities and services. It is vital that there is no closure of departments if their designated replacements are not fully operational.
Labour’s poor record is impossible to spin. They have bloated the NHS with bureaucracy; waiting lists have increased, failed to introduce Mental Health legislation; transferred jobs of medical secretaries working in Gwent from the local area to abroad and allowed the NHS in Wales to fall far behind England. William has appealed to the Assembly Health Minister to follow the lead of his colleague who promised to resign if the NHS in England does not break financially even by March. Dr. Gibbons refusal to resign if the NHS in Wales does not break even was no surprise. He should not be surprised if the Welsh public take a poor view of his record at the polls in next May’s Assembly election.
