ELECTRICITY SUBSTATION VANDALISM
COULD HAVE ENDED IN TRAGEDY
a media release issued on Thursday 31 January 2008 by William Graham AM
William Graham (Conservative AM for South Wales East) responding to vandals breaking into electricity substation on Clearwater Road causing fire and 2 hour blackout:
“Even our youngest children, allowed out without parent supervision, should be fully aware of the dangers of breaking into electricity substations”.
“It takes either tremendous effort or stupidity, to enter these installations; not only are they securely shut off, they have numerous warnings about the dangers of entering”.
“Our fire fighters were required to use specialised extinguishers to tackle the fire the vandals started. We cannot begin to imagine the outcome of someone attempting to putout such a fire with water”.
“In addition to the dangers to themselves, they placed our fire-fighters in potential danger, along with all those people who needed to be evacuated for premises arising from the blackout they caused”.
