GRAHAM WELCOMES MAJOR EXPANSION TO RECYCLING SITE IN NEWPORT
A media release on 6th March
William Graham AM today welcomed the news that Sims Recycling Solutions have commenced work on an £8 million recycling plant at Alexandra Docks in Newport.
The Conservative AM for South Wales East commented;
‘This is excellent news for Newport and the building of what will be the world’s premier recycling facility underlines the city’s environmental credentials that saw it labelled Britain’s greenest city last October on account of it using fewer natural resources than any other urban centre.’
‘Last December I had the privilege of accompanying David Cameron on a visit to Sims Group’s existing recycling facility at Newport ABP Docks. David and I were struck by the scale of the operation and very impressed at the extent and quality of the materials recovered in the recycling process. In being the first plant built in response to the introduction of European regulations on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Sims Group has again re-affirmed its credentials as a world leader in the metals recycling business.’
‘The efforts of employers such as Sims Recycling Solutions and Associated British Ports in Newport have demonstrated the important role that the private sector has to play in driving forward serious progress on the environment and sustainability in Wales.’
