TORFAEN COUNCIL STILL HAS OPTIONS TO RESOLVE BLAENAVON SWIMMING POOL ISSUE
A media release on Wednesday 3rd October 2007
William Graham (Assembly Member for South Wales East) responding to Alison Ward (Torfaen Council’s Chief Executive) comments that there was no option but to go ahead with the closure and demolition of Blaenavon swimming pool.
“I liaised with Andrew RT Davies - the Conservative Member of the Petitions Committee - on the strength of campaign to retain the pool and the level of local support, therefore I was pleased that the Assembly Petition’s Committee directed Torfaen to provide further details of their business case, in order to allow a proper consideration of petition to keep this facility in Blaenavon”.
“The people of Blaenavon have clearly demonstrated the value and need for a swimming pool in their town”.
“Blaenavon attracts Assembly Government, European and regeneration funding which could be applied to enhancing and providing public facilities such as the swimming pool”.
“I believe that Torfaen Council must demonstrate the vision to retain the current pool or incorporate a pool in future developments”.
