(Conservative AM for South Wales East) welcomes the £185m
investment to refurbish of a blast furnace at Corus steel
works in Port Talbot; an investment which is also enhance
the future of Llanwern, which rolls steel produced at Port
Talbot.
This rebuild will
increase the steel production capacity at Port Talbot to
400,000 tonnes per year.
Tata Steel (who own
Corus) acknowledge their investment will make Port Talbot a
global player in the production of high-quality steel
products.
“This is good news for
the steel industry in throughout South Wales, following on
from last month’s announcement from the Mir Steel UK on the reopening of the
Alphasteel plant in Newport”.
“I believe it also
reflects a growing global appreciation of the UK
Conservative led Governments actions to tackle our economic
deficit and to focus on manufacturing to lead our
recovery”.
